Calibre Wireless Device on Android & iOS — CaliMob Connect/Share

Calibre’s Wireless Device (Connect/Share) lets the desktop send books to a phone on the same Wi‑Fi network — no cloud folder required. CaliMob implements that protocol on Android and iOS: start the connection in Calibre, connect from the app, send books, and read them with the built-in EPUB/PDF/comics/audiobook reader.

How it works

  1. On the PC — Calibre → Connect/Share → Start wireless device connection. Note the IP and port shown (default port is often 9090).
  2. On the phone — CaliMob → add source → Wireless Device. Enter host and port, choose which local library should receive the files, connect.
  3. Send — in Calibre select books → Send to device. CaliMob shows progress; titles land in the sink library and open in the in-app reader.

Phone and desktop must be on the same local network. For travel or away-from-home sync, use cloud folders (Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV/Nextcloud, FTP/SFTP), Content Server, or OPDS instead — CaliMob supports those too.

Why not only Calibre Companion?

Companion popularized Wireless Device on Android but has no built-in reader and no iOS app. CaliMob keeps Connect/Share and reads the books in one place, on both platforms. Feature comparison: CaliMob vs Calibre Companion · Calibre Companion alternative.

Tips

  • If discovery does not find Calibre automatically, enter the IP:port manually (emulators often cannot use mDNS).
  • Pick a dedicated local sink library if you want Wireless Device transfers separate from a cloud-synced folder.
  • If the sink was previously linked to a different Calibre library UUID, CaliMob asks before continuing.
